LVAR TO SUPPORT JOSE ROSADO FOR 133rd LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT

On March 27, the LVAR Candidate Screening Committee (CSC), comprised of your fellow REALTORS®, conducted candidate interviews for the 133rd Legislative District. This is an open seat race as Representative T.J. Rooney, who currently holds the seat, is not seeking re-election. This race is considered the hottest and most closely watched in the Lehigh Valley. There is a four-way Democratic primary, and one Republican running for the seat.

After closely evaluating each of the candidate’s responses to an initial questionnaire, along with personal interviews, the Candidate Screening Committee voted to support Jose Rosado’s candidacy for the seat. The CSC’s recommendation was also approved by the LVAR Board of Directors Executive Committee.

LVAR is recommending support for Jose Rosado for a number of reasons. Rosado expressed a sincere desire to be a partner with REALTORS® should he become elected. His responses to our questions during the interview were overall consistent with LVAR and PAR policy positions.

It was obvious from the interview that Mr. Rosado was well prepared and had done his homework. His willingness to learn more about REALTOR® issues, combined with his eagerness to improve the overall quality of life within his district positioned Mr. Rosado as the leading candidate. Rosado shares many of the same values and ideals of our Association. He wants to encourage homeownership in his district and ensure there is adequate affordable housing. He is looking to support policies which preserve the rights of private property owners and help his constituents achieve the American dream of homeownership.

LVAR is proud to stand behind Jose Rosado and help him to victory on May 16th. LVAR is encouraging our members to volunteer on his campaign, especially on Primary Election Day (May 16th) to assist with Get Out the Vote efforts.

ELECTION 2006 UPDATE

This year promises to be an exciting election year, as a number of incumbents face serious challenges. Statewide, the U.S. Senator Rick Santorum (R) faces a tough challenge against PA State Treasurer Bob Casey (D). The Gubernatorial race is also turning out to be a hotly contested race. Governor Ed Rendell (D) is being challenged by the politically novice, but well-know and well-liked Pittsburg Steelers Hall of Famer, Lynn Swann (R).

Locally here in the Lehigh Valley, a number of our current State Legislators are facing challenges, while a few of them will sail through this year without an opponent. Perhaps the hottest and most closely watched race will be the open seat race for the 133rd Legislative District, currently held by Representative T.J. Rooney (D). Rooney will not be seeking reelection. There is a four-way Democratic primary, and one Republican running for the seat.
