REALTORS® SEEK LEGISLATIVE REMEDY TO STOP POINT OF SALE REASSESSMENTS
Members of LVAR’s Government Affairs Committee have been actively lobbying our State Legislative Delegation to support state legislation (HB 1438 and HB 1439), which would stop local taxing districts from engaging in the practice of point of sale reassessments.
LVAR has been aggressively opposing this practice, which has been in place in the Allentown School District and many others across the state. The legislation LVAR is supporting would allow taxing districts to appeal assessments only if a property is subdivided or when structures are added, improved or remove – not simply because a property is sold.
LVAR met with 9 out of 10 State Representatives in the month of March and was fortunate to receive a great response. 8 Representatives indicated they support our position and will vote in favor of the bills. 6 signed on as cosponsors to express their support of the bills. Click here to see who.
Representative Bob Freeman, Chairman of the House Local Government Committee, scheduled the bills for a vote in his Committee on April 1. Both bills passed with overwhelming support (passed 20-7). PAR and LVAR sent a letter of support to the Committee members seeking their affirmative vote and will continue to urge passage in the full house then on to the Senate. Senator James Rhoades (R-Schuylkill) is carrying companion legislation in the Senate (SB 1247 and SB 1258).
